Controlling a resident’s behaviours goes beyond Care Planning. Worker education, empowerment and support are the keys to success, and REC will customize the program to you, your team and your residents.
REC has experience working with the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC), Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Program (NVCI) and the Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) and will amalgamate the principles to educate your team to:
Recognize escalating behaviours before they become a true risk to any of the team, utilizing identified interventions to de-escalate the resident.
Report minor incidents. How, when and why it’s important, allowing for investigation opportunities.
Respond safely to an escalating resident, avoiding or managing a Code White incident.

A critical step that is often overlooked in an Injury and Disability Program Management is the first step: First Aid.
If your organization doesn’t already have a Recover At Work Program, REC will work with you to develop one which will successfully reduce recovery time and lost time costs, keeping injured workers at work to provide valuable services to your organization while performing light duties.
Should you have a program in place already and are looking for opportunities to maximize its effectiveness, REC will work with your leadership team to strategize potential solutions.
We’ll analyze your current communication systems in place to work with your injured team members, WorkSafeBC and Enhanced Disability Management Program (EDMP) to streamline your processes and determine what education is required. From here, we’ll develop a training action plan customized to reduce your injuries, recovery time, lost time and experience rating.

Having started her healthcare career working in Acute Care settings, Susan is well-versed in Transmission Based Precautions and their control measures. Susan implemented the same level of infection control practices into 50+ Long Term Care Homes and maintained the highest level of sanitation and protocols throughout the CoVid-19 Pandemic.
As an Infection Control Program doesn’t start and stop with soap, water and hand hygiene, REC is uniquely prepared to work with your front-line team on implementing and maintaining a healthcare level Infection Control program at your worksite.
Regardless of your industry, there are protocols we can implement that will protect your workers against any spread of Airborne, Droplet or Contact spread precautions, and can teach your workers on how to manage and clean up spills of Blood and Bodily Fluids.

Inspections are a vital component in the prevention of incidents and near misses that could result in serious, life altering injuries, fatalities and damage to your physical plant. Inspections provide an opportunity to identify and correct potential hazards prior to them causing harm to your team, equipment or infrastructure.
While inspection education is included in the mandated WorkSafeBC education for JHS Committee members, there is no obligatory education for front line workers, supervisors or Management. If deemed necessary, REC will work with your JHS Committee and Team to develop an inspection checklist that identifies and addresses your worksite’s specific hazards, assesses their level of risk and prioritizes action items based on risk. REC will develop an education and training program for your entire team that teaches them to:
Identify any variations in their environment that impact their physical and psychological health and safety.
Identify any behaviours or habits within the team that can jeopardize someone’s well-being.
Measure the risk of the identified hazard, based upon a set standard and scale of Frequency, Severity and Probability.
Immediately address/correct/report any high-risk hazards, behaviours or activities.
Understand the reporting structure, based upon risk level and priority of correction.

As per WorkSafeBC, “Employers must:
Ensure that all hazardous products are properly labelled
Make Safety Data Sheets readily available to workers
Prepare workplace labels and Safety Data Sheets as necessary
Provide worker education and training”
How is REC’s WHMIS Education different from other providers?
WHMIS education is available online via multiple providers for a low cost and provides employers a lot of independence in choosing their training provider for $35.
What REC provides will be on-site WHMIS education customized to the hazardous products used and their specific risks and control measures. We’ll complete a review of the hazardous products that your team utilizes and develop an easy to read summary to be provided to your staff.

An effective Committee starts and ends with the membership, and REC will work with your current team to determine the gaps in their education and will design a curriculum that directly addresses the gaps while meeting WorkSafeBC Compliance.
The education program that REC prepares for you will be uniquely customized to your worksite’s hazards and associated risks, providing your membership with hands on opportunities to practice investigations, inspections, developing and distributing documentation, plus effective communication during the meeting.
REC will work with your co-chairs on their specific duties and responsibilities, including how to delegate action items and run an effective, participatory meeting.
Some of the hands on skills we’ll teach the Membership will be conflict management, collaboration, decision making, and problem solving.
An effective and knowledgeable JHS Committee can run the OH&S Programs FOR you, allowing you to focus on following up on system deficiencies identified rather than the day-to-day program management.

Investigations that identify the root cause of the incident, injury or near miss provide the employer an opportunity to make systemic changes to the overall benefit of the OH&S Program and worker safety. REC understands that if you don’t know what your gaps are, you can’t grow, change and improve.
We want to work with your JHS Committee to delve deeper into your reports to determine if they were caused by:
Gaps in the overall system of Risk Assessments and Safe Work Procedures leaving room for error.
Gaps in the communication system between management and workers regarding safety expectations.
Behavioural trends leading to dangerous shortcuts and disregard of safety procedures.
Training shortfalls or Human Error.
