Violence Prevention / Responsive Behaviours
With 17 years working in Healthcare, we have had the misfortune to witness multiple incidents of violence towards front line staff, from residents, visitors and general public, trespassers and patients. These incidents, their aftermath and the fear they generate amongst the team slowly degenerates morale and can lead to increased absenteeism and turnover. We’ve seen firsthand the worst outcomes from Responsive Incidents towards both Direct Care staff and Support Services staff and we are dedicated to preventing similar incidents.
We want to work hand in hand with your front-line team to develop communication tools and processes that are clear, concise, effective and easy to maintain with a focus on:
Recognizing the behaviours,
Evaluating the environment and resident to determine triggers, and
Working hands on with the Team to help them learn to Control the behaviours.
A program that is customized to each resident’s triggers, behaviours and interventions will reduce the number of Responsive Behaviour Incidents and Injuries and will also succeed in reducing Pain Relief Narcotic use on site.
Controlling the resident’s behaviours goes beyond Care Planning. Worker education, empowerment and support are the keys to success, and REC will customize the program to you, your team and your residents.
REC has experience working with the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC), Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Program (NVCI) and the Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) and will amalgamate the principles to educate your team to:
Recognize escalating behaviours before they become a true risk to any of the team, utilizing identified interventions to de-escalate the resident.
Report minor incidents. How, when and why it’s important, allowing for investigation opportunities.
Respond safely to an escalating resident, avoiding or managing a Code White incident.
