Hazard Identification and Control (Formal and Informal Inspections)
Inspections are a vital component in the prevention of incidents and near misses that could result in serious, life altering injuries, fatalities and damage to your physical plant. Inspections provide an opportunity to identify and correct potential hazards prior to them causing harm to your team, equipment or infrastructure.
While inspection education is included in the mandated WorkSafeBC education for JHS Committee members, there is no obligatory education for front line workers, supervisors or Management. If deemed necessary, REC will work with your JHS Committee and Team to develop an inspection checklist that identifies and addresses your worksite’s specific hazards, assesses their level of risk and prioritizes action items based on risk. REC will develop an education and training program for your entire team that teaches them to:
Identify any variations in their environment that impact their physical and psychological health and safety.
Identify any behaviours or habits within the team that can jeopardize someone’s well-being.
Measure the risk of the identified hazard, based upon a set standard and scale of Frequency, Severity and Probability.
Immediately address/correct/report any high-risk hazards, behaviours or activities.
Understand the reporting structure, based upon risk level and priority of correction.
