Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees
Your JHS Committee is unique with varying personalities, perspectives and levels of ownership and education spread throughout the membership. An effective Committee starts and ends with the membership, and REC will work with your current team to determine the gaps in their education and will design a curriculum that directly addresses the gaps while meeting WorkSafeBC Compliance.
The education program that REC prepares for you will be uniquely customized to your worksite’s hazards and associated risks, providing your membership with hands on opportunities to practice investigations, inspections, developing and distributing documentation, plus effective communication during the meeting. REC will work with your co-chairs on their specific duties and responsibilities, including how to delegate action items and run an effective, participatory meeting. Some of the hands on skills we’ll teach the Membership will be conflict management, collaboration, decision making, and problem solving.
Educating the JHSC membership bolsters their overall confidence in their ability to oversee the OH&S Program going forward, which is the ideal situation for all worksites. An effective and knowledgeable JHS Committee can run the OH&S Programs FOR you, allowing you to focus on following up on system deficiencies identified rather than the day-to-day program management.
